Racing heart, shallow breathing, tension, worry that feels out of control, avoidance of situations, sleep disruption, stomach problems. These are normal responses to perceived threat.

Self-help strategies that work

  • Controlled breathing (breathe in for 4, hold for 4, out for 6)
  • Grounding techniques (5-4-3-2-1)
  • Gentle regular exercise
  • Limiting caffeine and alcohol
