Garden parties are brilliant when the weather cooperates and manageable when it doesn't — with the right preparation.
Food and drinks
Cold food is easier for outdoor serving. A grazing table (charcuterie, cheese, bread, salads) requires no hot serving equipment. For drinks: a large batch cocktail or Pimm's jug in a cool box, plus soft drink alternatives. Calculate roughly 2–3 drinks per person per hour.
The British weather plan
Always have a wet-weather contingency. Options: a gazebo or marquee, moving to a conservatory, or honestly just deciding the party continues regardless (with British spirit and umbrellas).
