UK student finance is made up of two main components: the tuition fee loan and the maintenance loan.
Covers up to £9,250/year in England, paid directly to the university. Students never handle this money.
Covers living costs. Amount depends on household income and whether the student lives at home, in university halls, or in private accommodation in London or elsewhere. Paid in three termly instalments.
In England: 9% of income above £27,295/year, deducted automatically from salary like tax. If income never exceeds the threshold, nothing is ever repaid. Written off after 40 years.
