Funeral order of service wording — what to include

A funeral order of service is a simple printed programme that guides attendees through the service. Here is what to include.

Cover page

The deceased's name and dates: Margaret Rose Bell, 1st January 1942 to 14th May 2026. A photo is optional but often included.

Service order

List each element in order with the participant's name:

• Welcome (officiant's name)
• Hymn or music (title)
• Reading (name of reader)
• Eulogy or address (name)
• Another hymn or piece of music
• Committal or closing words
• Recessional music

Back page

A short tribute, a favourite poem, or reception details. Many families include a meaningful quote or the words to a hymn.
