The driving test is failed most often for predictable reasons. Here is how to avoid them.
Most common reasons for failure
- Not checking mirrors at the right moments (before signalling, before manoeuvres)
- Incorrect observation at junctions (emerging when not safe)
- Wrong lane positioning or steering at roundabouts
- Incorrect signalling or failing to signal in time
- Positioning and speed on approach to hazards
On the day
- Arrive 10 minutes early to settle nerves
- Make your mirror checks obvious — examiners need to see them
- If you make a mistake, continue as if it did not happen
- The examiner does not want you to fail — they are not adversarial
