Frequently asked questions
Why does rest and recovery matter as much as training?
Because you don't actually get fitter or stronger during a workout — you get stronger while recovering from it. Training is the stimulus; the adaptation (muscle repair and growth, improved fitness) happens during rest, especially sleep. Skimp on recovery and you undermine the very gains you're training for, and risk overtraining: persistent fatigue, plateauing or declining performance, poor sleep, low mood, nagging soreness and a higher injury risk. Tracking recovery — your sleep, soreness, energy and rest days — helps you spot when you need to back off and reminds you that rest days are productive, not lazy. Good recovery means adequate sleep, decent nutrition, planned rest days, and gentle active recovery like walking or stretching. Listen to your body: if you're constantly exhausted or sore, that's a signal to rest more, not push harder. And if a niggle turns into real pain, see a GP or physio rather than training through it.
