Frequently asked questions

What are OKRs and how do you set them?
OKRs — Objectives and Key Results — are a popular goal-setting framework used by individuals and teams to focus on what matters and track progress. The idea is simple: an Objective is a clear, qualitative statement of what you want to achieve (ambitious and inspiring), and each Objective has a few Key Results, which are specific, measurable outcomes that prove you've achieved it. So 'grow our newsletter' becomes an objective, and 'reach 5,000 subscribers', 'achieve a 40% open rate' and 'publish weekly' become the measurable key results. Setting them well means keeping the number small (a few objectives at most, so you stay focused rather than spread thin), making the key results genuinely measurable (you should be able to score them objectively), and choosing a sensible timeframe — a quarter (90 days) is the classic period, long enough to achieve something meaningful but short enough to stay urgent. Then check in regularly through the quarter and review honestly at the end. The discipline forces clarity about what you're actually trying to achieve and what success looks like, rather than just staying busy.
