Frequently asked questions

What is cold water shock and why is it dangerous?
Cold water shock is the body's involuntary response to sudden immersion in cold water (below ~15°C): a gasp reflex, rapid breathing and increased heart rate. It's the leading cause of open-water drowning — the gasp can inhale water, and panic leads to exhaustion. The rule: in the first 60 seconds, don't try to swim. Stay calm, float on your back, and let the initial shock pass. Then assess and swim. Entering slowly and acclimatising reduces the shock significantly.
Is it really free?
Yes — no email, no sign-up.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes — print as many copies as you need.
