Frequently asked questions

How often should you clean out your fridge?
A good rhythm is a quick weekly check — pulling out anything past its best and giving spills a wipe, ideally just before your big shop when the fridge is emptiest — plus a deeper clear-out every month or so where you take everything out, check all the dates (including the forgotten jars and condiments lurking at the back), wipe down all the shelves, drawers and door seals, and restock. This routine does more than keep it hygienic: it dramatically cuts food waste and saves money, because food (and the money you spent on it) most often gets wasted by being forgotten at the back until it's off. A few habits help between clear-outs: keep a 'use it up' mindset by cooking a meal from what needs eating soon, rotate older items to the front so they get used first, and check your fridge is at the right temperature (around 5°C or below) to keep food safe and fresh for longer. Always follow use-by dates for food safety.
