How to organise a job search: tracker, preparation and applications

A job search is a numbers game that requires organisation. Here is how to run it systematically rather than chaotically.

Track every application

Most job seekers lose track of which role is at which stage. Use our free job application tracker to record every application, interview and follow-up. Being organised prevents the embarrassment of being asked about a role you have forgotten applying for.

Quality over quantity

Tailoring a cover letter and CV to each role produces better results than mass-applying with a generic application. A target of 3-5 high-quality applications per week beats 30 generic ones. Research each company and reference something specific in the application.

Interview preparation

Use our free interview prep notes for each interview. Research the company, prepare three strong examples using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result), and prepare two thoughtful questions to ask. Being over-prepared is not possible.

Frequently asked questions

How many applications should I send per week?
Quality beats quantity. Three to five tailored applications per week is more effective than 20 generic ones.
What is the STAR method?
Situation (describe the context), Task (your responsibility), Action (what you did), Result (the outcome). This structure answers 'tell me about a time when...' questions concisely and memorably.
