What to track
At minimum: everything you eat and drink, and roughly when. For weight management: add approximate calories. For health conditions: add specific nutrients (protein, carbohydrate, sodium depending on the condition). Tracking hunger and mood alongside food often reveals the most important patterns — particularly emotional eating triggers.
How long to track
Two consecutive weeks of complete, honest tracking produces more insight than months of sporadic logging. Many people track permanently; others track periodically (a week every 3 months) to recalibrate. The goal is awareness, not lifelong counting.
What it typically reveals
Most people discover they eat more at weekends, underestimate portion sizes of high-calorie foods, eat less protein than they think, and have identifiable emotional eating patterns. Use our free food diary to log for two weeks and see what your data shows.
