Daily tasks (the non-negotiables)
Five minutes of daily maintenance prevents an hour of catch-up cleaning. The essential daily tasks: wipe kitchen surfaces, deal with dishes before bed, do a quick bathroom sink wipe and tidy the main living areas. These alone keep a home from deteriorating between deeper cleans.
The weekly rotation
Assign specific tasks to specific days rather than doing everything at once. Our free cleaning schedule template allocates different rooms and tasks to Monday through Friday — hoovering one day, bathrooms another, kitchen deep-clean a third. Each session takes 20–30 minutes rather than a whole morning.
The monthly extras
Tasks that weekly cleaning misses: behind appliances, inside kitchen cupboards, windowsills and frames, lamp shades and light fittings, inside the oven properly. Schedule one monthly task per week — it takes 15–20 minutes and the house never gets dramatically out of hand.
