How to start journalling — a beginner's guide

Journalling is one of the most consistently recommended wellbeing habits. Here is how to start without overthinking it.

Start small

Five minutes a day is enough. Three things you are grateful for, one thing that happened, one intention for tomorrow. Our free daily journal page gives you the structure — you just fill it in.

Morning or evening?

Morning journalling (intentions, gratitude, one goal for the day) sets a calm, focused tone. Evening journalling (reflection, what went well, what to do differently) processes the day. Try both for a week and keep the one that sticks.

What to write when you have nothing to write

Use a prompt. 'What am I grateful for right now?' and 'What is one thing I did well today?' are enough. The monthly gratitude journal gives you a structured framework for the whole practice.
