Spring clean vs deep clean — what is the difference?

The terms are often used interchangeably but refer to different levels of cleaning thoroughness.

Regular cleaning

Weekly or fortnightly maintenance: hoovering, mopping, wiping surfaces, cleaning bathrooms and kitchen. Keeps the home presentable and hygienic.

Deep clean

A thorough clean of a specific area: inside the oven, behind the fridge, the inside of a wardrobe, grout re-cleaning. Deep cleans are done room by room when a room has become significantly dirty or before/after a significant event (moving in, before a large gathering).

Spring clean

An annual whole-house deep clean plus decluttering session. Typically done in spring (hence the name) when the weather improves and you can open windows while cleaning. Covers everything a regular clean misses across the whole house simultaneously.
