Secret Santa rules and how to organise a draw

Secret Santa is a gift exchange where each person draws a name and buys a gift for just that one person, in secret.

The rules

• Everyone puts their name in the draw.
• Each person draws a name — and that is who they buy for.
• Set a clear budget (£15-20 is the usual sweet spot).
• Keep the assignment secret until gifts are exchanged.

Organising the draw

Write names on slips of paper and draw from a hat, or use our free Secret Santa organiser printable to keep track of who has who. Make sure nobody draws their own name — redraw if needed.

When to exchange

Usually at the Christmas party or gathering, where each person gives their gift to the person they drew.
