RDA explained — recommended daily amounts for nutrients

The Recommended Daily Amount (RDA), also referred to as Reference Nutrient Intake (RNI) in UK nutrition labelling, is the amount of a nutrient considered sufficient to meet the needs of the majority (97.5%) of the healthy population. It is a population-level guideline, not a personalised target.

Important limitations

RDAs are minimum sufficiency targets, not optimal amounts. Active individuals, pregnant or breastfeeding women, older adults and those with specific health conditions have different requirements. The RDA should be read as a floor, not a ceiling.
