The no-spend month — what it is and how to do it

A no-spend month is a self-imposed challenge to eliminate all non-essential spending for 30 days. It is one of the most effective ways to reset spending habits.

Setting the rules

Essentials (groceries, bills, fuel, medication) are always allowed. Non-essentials (eating out, clothes, entertainment, Amazon, coffee shops) are not. Write your rules down before you start — use our no-spend tracker to document the rules.

How much can you save?

Most people save £200–500 in a no-spend month. The bigger benefit is the revelation about habitual spending patterns rather than the money itself.

What to do when you want to spend

Wait 24 hours. Write down what you wanted to buy and why. At the end of the month, review the list — most items will no longer feel necessary.
