Leave No Trace (LNT) is a set of outdoor ethics developed to minimise the impact of recreational activities on wild places.
The seven principles
- Plan ahead and prepare: know the regulations, weather and terrain before you go
- Travel and camp on durable surfaces: stick to established paths and rocky or dry ground
- Dispose of waste properly: pack out all waste; bury human waste 15cm deep, 200m from water
- Leave what you find: do not pick plants, disturb wildlife or move rocks
- Minimise campfire impacts: use a stove where possible; if fires are permitted, use existing fire rings
- Respect wildlife: observe from a distance; never feed animals
- Be considerate of other visitors: keep noise low; yield to others on trails
