Junior ISA explained — saving for your child's future

A Junior ISA (JISA) is a tax-free savings or investment account for children under 18. The 2024–25 annual allowance is £9,000. Money held in a Junior ISA cannot be withdrawn until the child turns 18, at which point it converts to a regular adult ISA.

Types of Junior ISA

The case for a Stocks & Shares JISA

For children born today, an 18-year investment horizon makes the Junior Stocks & Shares ISA compelling for most families. £50/month invested from birth at 7% average annual returns produces approximately £21,000 by age 18. The same amount in a cash ISA at 3% produces approximately £14,000.
