The hazard perception section is the second part of the UK driving theory test. It assesses your ability to identify developing hazards in video clips.
You watch 14 video clips (each approximately 1 minute long) shot from a driver's point of view. You must click when you see a developing hazard — something that would require you to take action (slow down, steer, brake). One clip contains two hazards; the rest have one each. Maximum score: 75. Pass mark: 44.
Hazards carry a maximum of 5 points. The earlier you click once the hazard starts developing, the more points you score. Clicking repeatedly (pattern clicking) scores zero for that clip and may trigger a score of zero if the computer detects erratic clicking.
Practise with the official DVSA app or website daily for at least 2 weeks before the test. The key skill is identifying when a hazard starts developing (a child walking near a kerb, a car starting to pull out) rather than waiting for it to become obvious.
