When should you have a baby christening?

A christening traditionally happens in the first few months after birth, though there is no strict rule on timing.

The sweet spot

3 to 6 months after birth is the most common timing. The baby is old enough to be comfortable at a gathering, and parents have found their feet enough to plan a small celebration.

Later christenings

Some families choose to wait until a year or older, or until a sibling is born and christened together. There is no pressure to rush.

Planning ahead

Book the church 2-3 months in advance — popular churches fill fast for Sundays. Send invitations 6-8 weeks before with our free christening invitation template.
