Neutrals are the backbone: navy, black, grey, camel, white, cream. Choose 2-3 as your primary neutrals. Everything else needs to work with them. Navy and camel is a classic pairing. Black and white is the modern default. Grey and white is the softest option.
Accent colours appear in shirts, blouses, accessories and statement pieces. They should all work with your neutrals. Terracotta works with camel and cream. Burgundy works with navy and grey. Forest green works with navy, black and camel.
Ask: does this work with at least three things I already own? If not, do not buy it. The best capsule purchase multiplies what you already have rather than starting a new cluster.
